Deaf Queer Women Against Violence

Deaf Queer Women Against Violence Program

The Ontario Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf, in collaboration with Springtide Resources will create the first Canadian American Sign Language (ASL) and captioned DVD about healthy and unhealthy relationships and different forms of violence and harassment that Deaf Queer womyn experience. It will include a list of relevant terminology related to abuse such as different forms of violence, harassment, and also terms used in the Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender, Transsexual, Intersex, Queer, and Two Spirited (LGBTTIQ2S) communities, and their definitions in ASL. This DVD will provide a list of services available, tips on self advocacy including how to get an interpreter along with the individual’s right to interpreter services when they wish to access a service. The DVD will also provide guidelines for hearing and Deaf agencies to enhance their capacity to provide effective services when coming into direct contact with Deaf queer womyn. Upon completion of the DVD, the content will be used to design and deliver two or three workshops.
